HONOLULU — The University of Hawaii women’s and men’s basketball teams will each celebrate their respective “Senior Night” games today and Saturday, respectively, at the Stan Sheriff Center.

The Rainbow Wahine (15-11 overall, 9-5 Big West Conference) will face UC Santa Barbara (8-19, 3-11) at 7 p.m. Thursday. The game will be broadcast live on OCSports.

UH seniors Kamilah Jackson, Shawna-Lei Kuehu, Sydney Haydel, Pua Kailiawa and Diane Moore will be honored in a traditional potsgame ceremony. Kailiawa is a Ka‘u High School graduate from Pahala.

The Rainbow Wahine are alone in third place in the Big West standings; UC Santa Barbara is in eighth place. UH travels to Cal State Fullerton (11-16, 7-7) on Saturday for its regular season finale.

Jackson has sat out the past four games due to a foot injury; her status is day-to-day.

The Rainbow Warrior men (19-9, 8-6) will play at UC Santa Barbara (19-8, 10-4) at 4 p.m. (HST) Thursday, then come home for their home finale and Senior Night on Saturday vs. Cal State Fullerton (11-17, 6-8). That game is set for 7 p.m. and will be televised live statewide on OCSports.

UH seniors Christian Standhardinger, Brandon Spearman and Davis Rozitis will be honored in the traditional postgame ceremony.

The Rainbow Warriors are alone in fourth place in the conference standings; UC Santa Barbara is in second place.

Both the UH men and women will compete in the Big West Tournament in Anaheim, Calif., next week.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL HOSTS UC IRVINE: The UH men’s volleyball team, fresh off a two-match sweep of ten-No. 3-ranked UCLA, plays host to UC Irvine on Friday and Sunday in a pair of Mountain Pacific Sports Federation matches at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Friday’s match is set for 7 p.m. and Sunday’s match will begin at 5 p.m.; Friday’s matche will be televised live statewide on OCSports.

The Rainbow Warriors (11-6 overall, 9-5 MPSF) moved up three spots in the latest AVCA poll to a tie for eighth with UC Irvine (11-8, 8-7).

UH junior opposite Brook Sedore was named AVCA Player of the Week for his performance against UCLA, averaging 5.11 kills per set and hitting .427 during the series. He had a match-high 24 kills in the first (four-set) victory over the Bruins, and 22 kills in the five-set win on Saturday.

SOFTBALL TEAM HOSTS JACK-IN-THE-BOX SPRING FLING: The UH softball team surrendered a nine-run first inning en route to a 10-1 loss to California at the Jack-in-the-Box Spring Fling Tournament, which runs through Sunday at Rainbow Wahine Stadium.

Freshman pitcher Heather Morales recorded only two outs and fell to 6-5 as her ERA climbed to 5.13.

Sophomore third baseman Alyssa Villalpando leads the team in batting at .410, while junior first baseman Leisha Liilii is second at .386 with a team-high seven home runs and 18 RBIs.

Sophomore right fielder Keiki Carlos is hitting .360 with a team-high 18 hits and five doubles.

Sophomore pitcher Loie Kesterson is 3-2 with a 6.34 ERA.

The Rainbow Wahine play Pacific at 6 p.m. today, Cal at 6 p.m. Friday, Pacific again at 4 p.m. Saturday, and James Madison at 2 p.m. Sunday.

BASEBALL TEAM AT TEXAS: The UH baseball team will play a four-game series at No. 10-ranked Texas starting Friday.

Friday’s first pitch is set for 2 p.m. (HST), a Saturday doubleheader will begin at 9 a.m. and Sunday’s finale also is set for 9 a.m. Each game will be broadcast live on radio via ESPN AM1420.

The Rainbow Warriors are 6-6 after splitting a four-game series against Pepperdine last week.

Senior pitcher Matt Cooper was named Big West Player of the Week after tossing a three-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts in the series opener. Junior center fielder Kaeo Aliviado leads the team in batting with a .300 average.
