David Ovbagbedia, Justas Gecas and Nicky Palleschi led Hawaii Prep to a 42-33 win over Kalani in the HHSAA boys Division II basketball championship game Saturday night at Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu.

For their strong performances, Ovbagbedia, a 6-foot-4 senior, was named the tournament’s outstanding player while Gecas and Palleschi, both juniors, earned all-tournament honors.

In claiming the private school’s first state basketball title, Ovbagbedia led with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Gecas had eight points, six rebounds and four assists, and Palleschi added nine points and five rebounds.

The Hawaii Prep trio was joined on the all-tourney squad by Kalani’s Brandon Roberts and Kohala’s Mikala Jordan. Seabury Hall defeated Kohala 57-45 in the third-place game.

In the state D-I tournament final, Iolani edged Farrington 43-40.
