From 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday the members of the Waiakea Lions Club will host their 60th annual Chuckwagon Breakfast in the Waiakea High School cafeteria. As they have for six decades, the Lions will use the proceeds for their many community service projects.
From 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday the members of the Waiakea Lions Club will host their 60th annual Chuckwagon Breakfast in the Waiakea High School cafeteria. As they have for six decades, the Lions will use the proceeds for their many community service projects.
“Please come out and support the Waiakea Lions to help us serve our community,” said spokesman Chuck Bolden. “Breakfast includes eggs, spam, rice, fruit, pancakes, cold cereal and coffee or juice. You cannot get a better breakfast for $6, and support our community at the same time.”
Although meals can be purchased at the door, the Lions ask that folks buy tickets in advance, so the volunteer support crews know how much groceries to buy.
“We encourage advance ticket sales, as much as possible, to help us in our planning,” said Bolden. Tickets can be purchased from any of the Lions members. If you don’t know one, give Bolden a call at 981-2660 and he can put you in touch with a nearby Waiakea Lion.
Each year the Lions, with the help of the Waiakea High School Leos and Boy and Cub Scouts from Troop 19, host this popular event. All funds raised go to the community in the form of grants and projects such as high school scholarships, sponsorship of the WHS Leos, and Boy and Cub Scout troops, vision and hearing screening for children, the annual Children’s Christmas Party, highway and beach cleanups, charitable projects at Waiakea High school, and many other worthwhile projects in the community.
“During this year’s breakfast, a check will be presented to a deserving local charity,” said Bolden. “The Waiakea Lions have donated $2,000 each year to charities like the Hawaii Island Food Basket, the Salvation Army and Special Olympics.
“This may be another difficult year economically in our community for some of our neighbors, and we believe, as Lions, in supporting our neighbors. Any successful event could not be accomplished without the outstanding support we receive every year from our community,” said Bolden. “Thanks for your continued support to help us fulfill the Lions motto: ‘We Serve.’”
