A registered sex offender accused of abducting a 17-year-old girl at knifepoint, taking her to his downtown Hilo apartment and forcing her to perform a sex act will face trial.

A registered sex offender accused of abducting a 17-year-old girl at knifepoint, taking her to his downtown Hilo apartment and forcing her to perform a sex act will face trial.

Lawrence “Larry” Abiley on Tuesday pleaded not guilty to kidnapping, first-degree terroristic threatening and third-degree sexual assault. Hilo Circuit Judge Glenn Hara ordered him to appear for trial at 8:30 a.m. June 9.

According to court documents filed by police, the girl told officers Abiley approached her on Kalakaua Street about 2 a.m. on Feb. 4, brandished a red-handled pocket knife and told her, “Come with me or I going cut you.”

Abiley escorted the girl to his Haili Street apartment, documents state, dropped his pants and instructed her to fondle his privates, documents state.

The girl reportedly told police that after Abiley was finished, he kissed her and went to the bathroom, which is when she made her escape.
