Panaewa Stampede Rodeo this weekend

Panaewa Stampede Rodeo this weekend

The 22nd annual Panaewa Stampede Rodeo will be held Saturday and Sunday at Panaewa Equestrian Center in Hilo.

Traditional events such as bull riding, bronco riding, team roping and barrel racing are on tap, as well as Hawaii-centric events such as Po’o Wai U and double mugging.

The rodeo starts at noon Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday. Pre-sale tickets are $6 from Rodeo Queen Contestants and at Coldwell Banker Day-Lum Properties, 2 Kamehameha Ave. in Hilo. Entrance at the gate is $8. Children 12 years and under will be admitted for free.

Horseshoe pitchers tourney is on tap

The Hilo Ohana Horseshoe Pitchers Club annual singles/doubles tournament will be held Saturday and Sunday at the Onekahakaha Horseshoe Courts.

Check-in is at 8:30 a.m. with the tournament to start at 9 a.m. NHPA/HSHPA membership required. Awards and cash prizes will be presented afterwards.

A potluck lunch will be held from noon to 1 p.m. The deadline to enter the tournament is 6 p.m. today.

Lover’s 5K Fun Run is Saturday

Big Island Road Runners is sponsoring a free Lover’s Day 5K Fun Run at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at Reeds Bay.

There will be prizes for top couples, who will have their wrists tied together and must finish with the ribbon intact.

Waiakea is holding a preseason boys volleyball tournament Friday-Sunday.

Softball benefit for Keaau High

There will be a men’s slow-pitch softball tournament on March 1 at Keaau High School to benefit the Cougars’ softball team.

Japanese Chamber golf tournament

The 15th annual Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Hawaii Golf Classic will be held March 5 at Hilo Municipal Golf Course.

The registration is $300 per team (two-person scramble), which includes green/cart fees, lunch and prizes. Registration is at 10 a.m. with an 11 a.m. shotgun start.

There are a variety of sponsorship’s available: Ozeiki ($1,500 donation, includes three team of two golfers, each player will receive a special tournament polo shirt,company logo on banner and promotional materials, and a placard sign displaying your company logo; Sekiwaki ($275 donation, includes single golf entry fee, and a placard sign displaying company logo); Komusubi ($150 donation, a placard sign displaying company logo).
