Hawaii County Fire Department responded Wednesday to a home in Keauhou after it was reported that a large roller compactor had crashed into the garage and trapped a man.

A coworker told firefighters that the man had been operating the compactor when he lost control and crashed into the home.

Upon arrival, around 1:30 p.m., firefighters found the compactor partially on its side, with the 38-year-old man underneath. He was described as being “awake, alert, and complaining of pain to his entire body.”

“The patient was rapidly extricated due to the vehicle being in an unstable position,” reads a Wednesday evening report by the fire department.

The man was treated at the scene and then transported to Kona Community Hospital.
