Richard “Richie Boy” Tsuneki Omija Jr., 58, of Honaunau, died Jan. 26 at his residence. Born in Pahala, he was a retired construction inspector and former road supervisor for the County of Hawaii. A Celebration of Life will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at Naalehu Community Center. Service at 11 a.m. Casual attire. No flowers. Survived by wife LuciAnn Omija; daughters Rikki Omija, Rachel Omija; son Robert Omija all of Honaunau; parents Richard and Thelma Omija; brother Michael Omija, all of Waiohinu; sister Katie (Loyd) Hokama of Hilo; numerous nieces and nephews. Douglas “Boysie” Fairbanks Mercado Jr., 53, of Hilo, died Monday, Jan. 20, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, he was a drywall contractor and member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo. Martin Stanley Oliver, 70, of Hilo died Jan. 24 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Canada, he worked on the Canadian oil rigs prior to forming Porcine Aqua, Inc., handling ranching and farming operations in Eaglesham, Alberta. He was a proprietor of The Land Office Inc. in Laupahoehoe and Naalehu and was the former manager for the original Dairy Queen in Waimea. He was a member of the Hawaii Island Board of Realtors Association, a pilot and member of the Hilo Experimental Aircraft Association and avid ballroom dancer and “water boy” for the Big Island Ballroom Dance Club. Celebration of Life noon Saturday at Aunty Sally’s Luau Hale. Aloha attire. Amy Emiko Matsukado, 70, died Sunday, Jan. 19, at the Hale Nani Rehabilitation &Nursing Center on Oahu. Born in Kurtistown, she was a retired secretary with the Hawaii State Department of Education and a member of the Kurtistown Jodo Mission. Winifred Hauoli Batalona, 77, died Jan. 1 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo she retired from Mac Farms of Hawaii Inc. as a crew chief supervisor. Pedro “Pete” T. Quiocho, 65, died Sunday, Jan. 26, at North Hawaii Community Hospital in Kamuela. Born in Honokaa, he was a retired Vietnam Veteran in the U.S. Army and Army National Guard. He worked as a Steward for the Hilton Waikoloa and was a member of the Honokaa United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 003-Hilo, Big Island National Guard Retirees Association-Hilo, Big Island Military Association-Hilo, Disabled American Veterans Post #9-Puna, Veterans of Foreign Wars-Hilo, International Longshore Warehouse Union (ILWU)-142 and the Hamakua Saranay Club.
