Glenn Sako, Scoutmaster of Boy Scouts of America Troop 19, announced Adam Onishi is the troop’s newest Eagle Scout. The troop is sponsored by the Waiakea Lions Organization and has troop meetings at the United Community Church.
Glenn Sako, Scoutmaster of Boy Scouts of America Troop 19, announced Adam Onishi is the troop’s newest Eagle Scout. The troop is sponsored by the Waiakea Lions Organization and has troop meetings at the United Community Church.
Onishi’s scouting highlights included having numerous leadership positions such as senior patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, troop guide, patrol leader and scribe, and participating in service projects. Onishi’s Eagle Scout Service Leadership Project included the coordination and assembly of a bus stop shelter on Kalanianaole Avenue. This project involved the assembly of walls and a bench, anchoring of the shelter to a cement foundation and securing the walls/roof.
“Mahalo to Isemoto Contracting, who advised the construction procedures, and the Hawaii County Mass Transit Agency, who donated the bus shelter kit, materials and safety equipment for the Eagle project,” said Sako.
A senior at Waiakea High School, Onishi has been involved in numerous extra-curricular activities such as Leo Club, National Honor Society, Student Council, Judo Club and Air Riflery, and he has achieved scholastic and athletic awards. He plans to enter into the field of business. He is the son of Win and Eileen Onishi of Hilo.
When asked what Scouting means to him, Onishi said it’s developing not only Scouting skills, but also developing skills essential to a successful future. He sees Scouting as a once in a lifetime experience that makes each Scout a better friend, family member, citizen and person as a whole. Onishi thanked family, friends and fellow Scouts for providing motivation to be the best he can be.
