As of Thursday afternoon, the Hawaii Police Department had yet to bring charges against a man arrested Wednesday in connection with a bank robbery at Central Pacific Bank on Kilauea Avenue in Hilo.

Lelome Kahaualoa Rogers, 61, who has no permanent address, was located on Aupuni Street and arrested at 2:05 p.m. Wednesday.

He was being detained at the Hilo police cellblock while detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section continued their investigation.

In a phone interview Thursday, Detective Joel Field said he couldn’t discuss the case, as it was still ongoing.

At 1:42 p.m. Wednesday, South Hilo Patrol officers responded to a report of a robbery at the bank, where a man reportedly handed an envelope containing a demand note for money to the 20-year-old female teller. The teller told police she placed $500 in cash within a white envelope and handed it to the suspect, who then left the area on foot, according to a police incident report.

Authorities ask anyone who witnessed the incident to call the Police Department’s nonemergency line at 935-3311 or contact Detective Joel Field at 961-2381 or jfield@co.hawaii.hi.us.
