Chalk up a sixth straight unbeaten regular season for Konawaena’s girls basketball team.
Chanelle Molina scored 16 points and Ihi Victor contributed 11 on Saturday night as the Wildcats overpowered Hawaii Prep 43-16 in a Big Island Interscholastic Federation game in Waimea.
The Wildcats (11-0) needed the victory to finish a game ahead of Hilo in Division I and secured their annual trip to the Hawaii High School Athletic Association tournament.
The top seed in the BIIF tournament, five-time defending champion Konawaena plays Keaau (5-6) at 6 p.m. Friday in the semifinals at the Cougars’ gym
As is often the case, the Wildcats flourished behind suffocating defense Saturday, holding Ka Makani (5-6) to just four first-half points.
Anna Juan scored 11 points for HPA (5-6), which is seeded fourth in the BIIF Division II tournament and is gearing up to face top-seeded Honokaa at 3 p.m. Friday at Keaau.

Hilo 66, Kealakehe 28: Alexis Pana scored 17 points and Shalyn Guthier added 11 for the visiting Vikings, who put the finishing touches on a 10-1 regular season.
In the Division I semifinals at Keaau on Friday, the Vikings play Waiakea (7-4) at 7:30 p.m. If Konawaena wins the earlier semifinal, the Vikings and Warriors will decide who gets the other state berth in D-I.
Ivana Galvez had seven points for the Waveriders, whose season is over at 1-10.
Hilo won the JV game 56-10.

Kamehameha 48, Keaau 39: Casey Poe tallied a game-high 23 points and Riana Arima scored 12 to pace the visiting Warriors, who have won three of four as they tune up for their BIIF title defense.
Sixth-time defending Division II league champion Kamehameha (8-3) is seeded second and draws third-seeded Kohala (6-5) in the BIIF semifinals at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Keaau. The Warriors beat the Cowgirls by 20 points last Monday in Kapaau.
Taylor Pocock finished off a stellar regular season with 22 points for the Cougars (4-7), who trailed by only two at halftime.
In JV, Kamehameha won 37-23.

Ka’u 46, Laupahoehoe 19: In Pahala, Bridget Pasion’s 11 points and 10 from Staysha Ault carried the Trojans (2-9) to victory.
Kailyn Requelman finished with eight points for the Seasiders (0-11).
