James P. Carey, 63, of Hilo died Sunday at home. Born in Pasadena, Calif., he was a retired tile layer and a U.S. Army veteran during the Vietnam War. He was also a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waianae, Oahu. Private services. Survived by brothers, Edward (Teresa) Carey, Jr. of California and Kevin Carey of Hilo; sisters, Maureen (Gary) Hammond of California, Sharon (Wil) Laurent of California, Eileen (David) Lovell of Hilo, Therese (Anthony) Pontrelli of California and Patti (Ken) Miller of California; one uncle; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Rosemary Jensen, 93, of Kona died Sunday at home. Born in Twin Falls, Idaho, she was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Twin Falls where she taught Sunday School. She was also a member of PEO and served as president for her chapter. Celebration of life to be held. Survived by sons, Ralph (Lin) Carpenter of Cave Creek, Ariz., Flint (Cassie) Carpenter of Kona, Rick (Lan) Carpenter of McMinnville, Ore., and Gale (Julie) Carpenter of Kona; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three step-children; four step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren. Beatrice Leinaala Hookahi Nobriga, 87, of Waimea died Jan. 15. Born in Hilo, she worked as a telephone operator, at Cattleman’s Steakhouse and at the front desk at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel. She was also a member of the Hawaiian Civic Club and Lion’s Club. Visitation at 10 a.m. Friday at Imiloa Congregational Church. Services at 11 a.m. Burial following services. Survived by son, Richard Nobriga of Waimea; sisters, Sarah Mendoza of Kaneohe, Oahu, and Harriett (Howard) Ackerman of Kealakekua; brothers, David S. Timothy Leo Palmer, 49, of Hilo died Jan. 4 at home. Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, he was a member of Christ Lutheran Church.
