Brook Sedore posted 24 kills Friday night and the University of Hawaii came back for a thrilling five-set volleyball victory against No. 4 Long Beach State at Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.

Taylor Averill and Sinisa Zarkovic contributed 12 and 11 kills, respectively, as the Rainbow Warriors prevailed 25-23, 19-25, 19-25, 27-25, 15-8.

After being swept by the 49ers a night earlier, UH (3-2, 1-1 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) was outhit and oublocked but still overcame 21 service errors to end a two-match losing streak. It rode Sedore (.396 attack percentage) most of the match, but needed only one kill from its junior outside hitter to take the fifth set.

Zarkovic’s kill helped Hawaii to a 3-0 spurt that broke a tie midway through Game 5, and he hit another to set up match point, which was secured on Dalton Ammerman’s attack error.

Taylor Crabb compiled 22 kills for Long Beach (3-2, 2-2), which hit .290 but cooled considerably in the decisive set.

Hawaii extended the match by winning three of the last four points of Game 4 on 49ers miscues. The set was tied 17 times.

While the Rainbow Warriors were able to overcome some of their service miscues with seven aces, Long Beach offered up 14 service errors and only one ace.

UH took more swings than its opponent, hitting .244 and getting six kills apiece from Jace Olsen and Kupono Fey. Sedore surpassed those totals in Game 1 alone with seven kills.
