Jerry Yoshimasa Uemura, 93, of Captain Cook died Monday at Life Care Center of Kona. Born in Kealakekua, he was a coffee farmer, carpenter and a retired maintenance worker for Huggo’s. Memorial service Feb. 1 at Kona Hongwanji Buddhist Temple in Kealakekua. Mamoru Oka, 81, of Keaau died Jan. 8 at home. Born in Puunene, Maui, he was a recreational director and a U.S. Army veteran. Memorial service at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Wailuku Hongwanji. Pacita “Pat” Manasas, 78, of Kailua-Kona died Dec. 19 at home. Born in Ewa, Oahu, she was a health aide at Kealakehe Elementary School and member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Stephen “Steve” J. Miller, 69, of Hilo died Jan. 7 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Meridian, Miss., he was a retired Hawaii County police sergeant. Donovan Kent “Duke” Cooper, 68, of Kahului, Maui, and formerly of Hilo, died June 16 at home. Born in San Francisco, he operated Helani Gardens Nursery in Hana, Maui. Internment at noon Monday at Hilo Veteran’s Cemetery No. 2, Column Burium section. Survived by wife, Theresa (Farias) Cooper of Maui; son, Matthew (Suzanne) Cooper of Maui; daughter, Sarah Cooper of Bend, Ore.; brother, Chris (Margie) Cooper of Hilo; sisters, Donna (Joe) Caimi and Ann (Stefan) Uyehara, both of Maui; mother-in-law, Frances Farias of Hilo; sister-in-law, Carol Farias of Hilo; brothers-in-law, Joseph (Chantal) Farias of Tennessee and Patrick Farias of Hilo; one grandson.

Agapito “Pete” Sumarnap Jr., 67, of Hilo died Jan. 7. Born in Naalehu, he was a retired drafting engineer. He was also a member of the Ainaola Ward at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
