An elderly couple suffered injuries following a fire at their Hawaiian Acres home on Sunday.

According to a press release from the Hawaii County Fire Department, the fire occurred around 5 a.m. at 16-1451 Opeapea St. in Hawaiian Acres.

The HCFD reports that upon arrival they found the 900 square foot structure “fully engulfed in flames.”

The owners’ names were not released at the time of publication.

HCFD Battalion Chief Jerry Lum said they were treated and transported to the Hilo Medical Center.

There was no word on their condition.

According to the press release, the fire was under control within 10 minutes and completely extinguished within three and half hours.
