The Hilo Community Chorus will present a classical choral concert in May. Rehearsals will begin at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the University of Hawaii at Hilo Rehearsal Room (next to the performing arts center).
Music for the concert includes Morten Lauridsen’s “Lux Aeterna” and Haydn’s “Lord Nelson Mass.”
Lauridsen is the 2007 National Medal of Arts recipient and the most-performed living American choral composer. His works have been recorded on more than 200 CDs, five of which received Grammy nominations. The great Haydn scholar H.C. Robbins Landon called “Lord Nelson Mass” “arguably Haydn’s single greatest composition.”
The Hilo Community Chorus is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, nonauditioned community-based chorus directed by Tom McAlexander and accompanied by Walter Greenwood.
Anyone who loves to sing choral music and is willing to devote two hours each week for rehearsals is welcome to join.
