Police charged a 58-year-old Keaau man with attempted murder and several other offenses after he allegedly threatened two police officers with a weapon.

Police charged a 58-year-old Keaau man with attempted murder and several other offenses after he allegedly threatened two police officers with a weapon.

At 8:30 p.m. Friday, detectives charged Joseph Feliciano with attempted first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening, first-degree attempted assault of a police officer and resisting arrest.

Those charges stemmed from a report of a disturbance at a home off Aulii Street in Orchidland Estates subdivision at 4:42 p.m. Thursday.

Arriving officers allegedly encountered Feliciano brandishing what police described as “two edged weapons.” Feliciano is not the police officer of the same name.

Feliciano reportedly refused to comply with several verbal commands given by police and allegedly threw one of the weapons at one of the officers, who managed to avoid being struck.

Neither officer was injured. One officer, who’s 41, is a seven-year veteran of the department. The other, who’s 26, has been with the department almost three years.

Feliciano was also charged with first-degree assault and domestic abuse for allegedly striking a 48-year-old woman in the face during a domestic dispute Wednesday. The woman declined treatment for her injuries.

Feliciano’s bail was set at $558,000. He remains in custody at the Hilo police cellblock pending his initial court appearance scheduled for Monday.
