LUCAS, Ky. (AP) — Barren River Lake State Resort Park is offering tours early next year to see flocks of sandhill cranes while they stop in Kentucky during their migration.

The park said the nature watch tours are available during two weekends — one in January and the other in February.

Sandhill cranes have a distinct appearance with a red-crowned forehead. When in flight, their long legs trail behind and their long neck is kept directly out. Each year, thousands of sandhill cranes stop at Barren River Lake as they congregate in huge numbers to migrate.
