Maurice Kaonohiokala Baysa, 77, of Arizona died Dec. 3 at the Hospice of the Valley — North Sun City PCU. Born in Hilo. Services will be Tueday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints stake Center, 1373 Kilauea Ave. Visitation at 10 a.m.; service at 10:30, followed by burial at 12 pm. at the Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Survived by wife, Helene Meyers Baysa; son, Mark Kaonohiokala Baysa; daughters, Toni Maile (Micheal) Spears and Lee Noelani (Geoffery) Fasoldt; brother, John Acosta Baysa Jr.; sisters, Joyce Kelekolio, Merney Baysa and Marylynn Soaladaop; seven grandchildren; numerous extended family members. Lily Yuriko Kuroyama, 65, of Hilo died Dec. 7 at the Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. Born in Hilo, she was retired from Waiakea Intermediate School as a seventh-grade Hawaiian history teacher and was a member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, Buddhist Women’s Association (Fujinkai), East Hawaii Hiroshima Kenjin Kai, Fukuoka Kenjin Kai and Kumamoto Doshi Kai. Visitation will be from 3:30-5 p.m. Friday at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo. Memorial service at 5 p.m. Casual attire. Survived by husband, Gary Kuroyama of Hilo; daughters, Mari (Andy) Kuroyama-Ton of Honolulu and Joni (Brad Nakanishi) Kuroyama of San Francisco, Calif; brothers, Ronald (Yoshiko) Nakatsu of Pearl City, Oahu, and Miles (Janice) Nakatsu of Hilo; sister, Doreen (Tom) Yamamoto of Mililani; numerous uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, and cousins. Mitsuki Matsunaga, 96, of Hilo died Dec. 5. Born in Hilo, he retired from Jas W. Glover Ltd. and farming, was a WWII Veteran of the 442nd RCT and recipient of the Congressional Gold Medal and was a member of the Big Island National Guard Retirees Association, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 6, Higashi Hongwanji Mission, Hilo Daijingu, Panaewa Kumiai and Kumamoto Doshi Kai. Funeral service will be Dec. 21 at the Higashi Hongwanji Mission. Visitation at 9 a.m. and service at 10 a.m. Survived by daughter, Lynnette Uyesato of Hilo; sister, Grace (Francis) Iwamoto of Kona; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
