Willie Hirokane told another media outlet the cemetery sent out a notice in September that it will start enforcing the rules.
All decorations have to be less than 2 feet tall.
He said workers will remove Christmas trees and other holiday decorations that violate the rules.
The enforcement is disappointing to Gary Carvalho, who for years used a Christmas tree to decorate the grave of his father, Lance Cpl. Marco Carvalho Jr.
He said his father served in the Marine Corps civil service at Pearl Harbor and loved Christmas.
Hirokane said the rules will be enforced at all veterans cemeteries, including Punchbowl.
