Fifth-grader Elijah Oliver won the Connections Public Charter School Spelling Bee on Nov. 26.

“It was an exciting spelling bee, with 15 students in grades 4-6 participating,” said school spokeswoman Kate Wines. “The bee went nine rounds.”

Oliver won the annual event by correctly spelling the word “piety.” The runner-up was another fifth-grader, Logan Okamoto.

“Congratulations goes out to all the bee competitors, with special applause to Elijah and Logan.

Both boys will compete in the Hawaii District Spelling Bee on Saturday, Jan. 18, at Hawaii Preparatory Academy,” said Wines.
