David Bock takes over today as publisher of the Hawaii Tribune-Herald.
Bock, 47, succeeds Ted Dixon, who is retiring. Dixon was publisher since 2003.
Bock, who is editor of the Tribune-Herald and director of news services for Stephens Media Hawaii, will retain his news-related responsibilities.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to continue to serve this community,” Bock said. “Ted did a terrific job as publisher, so I have some big shoes to fill. He will be missed.”
Dixon said, “David is a worthy successor, and I have a lot of confidence in him. This is a challenging time for the publishing industry, but I know David will work hard to ensure the Tribune-Herald remains a quality newspaper that is committed to community journalism.”
Bock worked for several magazines and newspapers before joining the Tribune-Herald in 1996. He was named editor in 2000.
Bock said one of his priorities for the Tribune-Herald will be to continue to grow the digital side of the business.
“The Tribune-Herald is no longer just a print publication,” Bock said. “It’s a whole host of digital products and services, and we want to make sure our great community content and advertising is available on all the devices people use these days, including phones, tablets or computers.”
Bock praised the Tribune-Herald’s staff and managers and said he is looking forward to working with them in his new role.
“They are a wonderful group of people,” Bock said. “They are talented and dedicated, and they work hard to make the best possible newspaper. It’s an honor working with them.”
Stephens Media LLC owns the Tribune-Herald, West Hawaii Today, North Hawaii News and Big Island weekly, as well as other newspapers across the mainland. Its largest publication is the Las Vegas Review Journal.
