The Hilo Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) held a progressive dinner fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 26. The event was hosted in three artfully decorated homes in the Hawaiian Beaches area of Pahoa.
The Hilo Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) held a progressive dinner fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 26. The event was hosted in three artfully decorated homes in the Hawaiian Beaches area of Pahoa.
The second-year culinary students from Hawaii Community College, who work under the direction of program Head Chef Allan Okuda and Chef Sandy Barr Rivera, prepared the main course, which was beef bourguignon and braised vegetables. The students operate the Ohana Corner Café, as well as the cafeteria at HCC, both of which are open to the public.
Not only was the event “Fun, Fabulous and Festive,” reported spokeswoman Rosemarie Muller, but the Hilo Branch was able to raise more than $1,000 for its scholarship fund. The Hilo Branch of AAUW awards scholarships to local women to complete their degrees at the University of Hawaii at Hilo. The group also makes annual contributions to the AAUW Educational Foundation.
“Our mission is to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy and research,” said Muller.
