Rosita “Etang” Baruela, 86, of Hilo died Wednesday, Oct. 9, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Bangued, Abra, Philippines, she was a retired factory worker for Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Company and a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Papaaloa. Friends may call Saturday, Oct. 26, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Papaaloa; Visitation from 8-10 a.m.; Mass at 10 a.m. Casual attire; Burial at Ookala Catholic Cemetery. Survived by daughters, Felicidad Laronal of Papaaloa and Julietta Estencion of Las Vegas, Nev.; stepdaughters, Pearlita (Ray) Line and Elizabeth Baruela of Hilo; stepson, Emeo (Francisca) Baruela of Pahala; caregiver, Miriam Guerrero of Hilo; numerous grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Donald “Don Tiki” James Butcher, 63, of Keaau, and formerly of Kauai and Oahu, died Oct. 14 at his residence. Born in St. Joseph, Mich., he was a handyman and a veteran of the U.S Navy where he was a sonar technician on numerous submarines. No services. Survived by wife, Madeleine Butcher of Keaau; step-daughter, Carol Peahu of Kauai; mother, Marie Butcher of St. Joseph, Mich.; nephew, Scott (Becky) Childress of Michigan; Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

Alan Isamu Doi, 65, of Hilo died Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Queens Medical Center in Honolulu. Born in Honolulu, he was a retired staff sergeant of the Air National Guard 291st Combat Communications Squadron, rooster member of Hilo Jaycees, University Heights Kumiai, and New Hope Christian Fellowship. Private services held. Survived by spouse, Kiyoko Doi of Hilo; daughter, Colleen Doi of Hilo; brother, Roy (Cass) Doi of Mililani; two grandchildren; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Matsuko Matsumura, 89, of Hilo died at the Life Care Center of Hilo on Friday, Oct. 4. Born in Kalaoa, Papaikou, she was the co-owner of the former Matsumura Poultry & Anthurium Farm. She was also a member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin Kyodan and Buddhist Women’s Association. Friends may call at the Dodo Mortuary chapel on Friday, Oct. 25, from 10-11 a.m., where a Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Casual attire. No flowers, or monetary donations. Ernest Donald Moerlien, 88, of Kailua-Kona, died Oct. 3 at his residence. Born in Granite City, Ill., he was a retired auto body business owner and a WWII Navy veteran. Private services.
