October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. A sign-waving and vigil to acknowledge victims of domestic violence and support survivors of abuse will be held Saturday, Oct. 19, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Kona International Marketplace.

Long-time resident Jackie Kalani will be bestowed the Purple Ribbon award for her invaluable contributions in the area of domestic violence on Hawaii Island.
