Saturday fun day

Saturday fun day

for Kabalis ohana

There will be a free family fun day from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at Edith Kanaka‘ole Multipurpose Stadium to benefit Kamalu Kabalis and his family.

The ohana-themed event will feature performances by Lehua Kalima, Rupert Tripp Jr., Pomai Longakit, Positive Motion, Lito Arkangel, a kupuna ukulele group, Taiko drummers and more.

There will be food and craft booths as well as keiki activities, a silent auction, haircuts and massages.

Kabalis, a Hilo resident, suffered major head trauma in a motorcyle accident in March of 2012, despite wearing a helmet. After spending time in medical centers in Hilo, Oahu and California, the 28-year-old Kabalis is back in Hilo but requires 24-hour care.

Proceeds will go toward the Kokua Kamalu Foundation, which was established by Kamalu’s parents, Sodie and Carla Kabalis.
