cheer registration

The Panaewa Alii Football Association is taking registration for the tackle/cheerleading season from 5-6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays in July at Panaewa Park.

Those signing up are asked to bring a current 2013 physical, copy of medical card, birth certificate, wallet-sized photo and a fourth-quarter report card.

Keaau bowling will

start practice July 23

Keaau High students interested in participating on the boys or girls bowling teams should contact coach Greg Gealon at 936-0041. Practice will begin at 3 p.m. July 23 at Hilo Lanes.

Fees are $3.50 per game plus tax (three games total). Participants should have a valid physical.

Kamehameha football

meeting is July 18

All prospective Kamehameha High School football players and their parents are required to attend an informational parent meeting Thursday, July 18 at 5:30 p.m. at Keawe Dining Hall.

Football tryouts begin July 22 and run through Aug. 9, and all current athletic paperwork must be completed.

Tryouts for the rest of the Warriors’ fall teams:

Girls volleyball: July 29-31, meet at Koaia gym at 3:30 p.m.

Boys cross country: July 30, meet in front of Koaia Gym at 3:45 p.m.

Girls cross country: Aug. 6-10.

Cheerleading: July 11-13, meet at Keaka Elementary Play Court at 3:30 p.m.

Bowling: July 31-Aug. 1, meet at Hilo Lanes at 2:30 p.m.

Air riflery: First week of school; more information to come.

Athletic participation paperwork must be completed before participating in a sport.

Hilo age group volleyball

organziationsl meeting

Team entries are being accepted for a Parks and Recreation age group volleyball league for boys and girls in Hilo.

Divisions are 8-10 years old, 12 and under, and 14 and under, and an organizational meeting will be held at 5 p.m. Aug. 10 at Aunty Sally’s Luau House.

The season is starting earlier than previous years, and the deadline to enter to be included on the first schedule is Aug. 23.

Waimea sport expo

is on tap July 27

The inaugural Waimea sports expo/family fun day will be held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. July 27 at Waimea Park.

There will be instructional sports clinics, mild-competitive games, fitness demos, a home run derby and more.

Keaau conditioning

Keaau High School is currently holding the following conditioning sessions for fall sports. All current and incoming students are encouraged to participate:

Cheerleading: Wednesday-Friday, starting July 10, 1:30-4:30 p.m.

Football: 2-5 p.m. at the field.

Volleyball: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday. 1-3:30 p.m. at gym.

Basketball: Monday and Wednesday, 5-7 p.m. at gym.

Soccer: Contact coach Richard Handy at 895-4005 for more information.

Cross Country: Contact office for details.

Holes-in-one at Hilo Muni

Ron Takahashi aced the 155-yard second hole at Hilo Municipal Golf Course using a hybrid on June 30 while playing with 1023 Golf Club.

Witnessing Takahashi’s fourth hole-in-one were Don Segawa, Richard Mitsutani, Dennis Maedo, Warren Arakaki and Anson Arakaki.

— Eric Yanagihara hit a hole-in-one on the 177-yard 10th hole at Hilo Muni using a 6-iron on June 29 while playing with Bay City Golf Club.

Owen Muneno, Susan Muneno, Sid Shimabukuro, Clay Nishiura, Brian Nishimura, Dana Sato and Ricky Nakamura witnessed Yanagihara’s second ace.
