Kona Coast wins by forfeit

Kona Coast won the opening round game of the District 3 Majors Big Island championships in Honokaa when North Hawaii forfeited in Honokaa on Friday.

North Hawaii had only eight players available.

Kona will play Hamakua at 10 a.m. today. The loser will face North Hawaii at 1 p.m. in an elimination game. The championship game is Sunday.

Setting the record straight

Punahou’s Kawika Lam captured the Hawaii High School Athletic Association boys singles tennis championship during the 2012-13 season.

In Friday’s story on Waiakea’s Isaiah Brilhante, Lam’s name was spelled incorrectly.

Brilhante finished third in the state event.
