UHH’s Yamauchi tied

for 76th at NCAAs

University of Hawaii at Hilo sophomore Dalen Yamauchi closed with a 5-over 76 to move up into a tie for 76th at the NCAA Division II golf championships in Hershey, Pa.

Yamauchi’s best round of the tournament featured two birdies, a double bogey and five bogeys. The Waiakea High graduate finished at 20-over 233.

Florida Southern’s Tim Crouch (2-under 211) won a three-way playoff to claim the individual title. The Moccasins were also the top seed among the eight teams that advanced to match play.

Hilo Junior Tennis

Club summer camp

The Hilo Junior Tennis Club’s summer camp will be held Tuesdays-Fridays from June 4-28 at Hilo Intermediate School tennis courts.

Beginners are scheduled from 9-11 a.m., with intermediate and advanced players from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Registration fees for beginners are $75 a week or $250 as lump sum. For intermediate and advanced players, the fee is $100 a week or $350 if paid as lump sum.

Registration requires membership in the Hilo Junior Tennis Club, which is $25 for new members, and the deadline to apply is June 3.

Instructors are Randy Kunimoto and Coach Kula Oda.

Men’s basketball

tourney this weekend

The Men’s Alumni Basketball Tournament will be held Saturday through Monday.

The tournament tips off at 9 a.m. Saturday with games at Andrews and Shipman gyms.

At Andrews Gym, it’s Pahoa Black vs. Laupahoehoe at 9 a.m., Iolani vs. Kamehameha-Hawaii at 11 a.m.; Kohala vs. Laupahoehoe at 1 p.m.; and Iolani vs. Keaau at 3 p.m. Youth games will be played at 10 a.m., noon, 2 and 4 p.m.

At Shipman Gym in Keaau, it’s Pahoa Green vs. Waiakea at 9 a.m., Keaau vs. Honokaa at 10 a.m., Hilo vs. Kohala at 11 a.m., Pahoa Green vs. Honokaa at noon, Hilo vs. Pahoa Black at 1 p.m., and Kamehameha-Hawaii vs. Waiakea at 2 p.m.

Games will continue Sunday, starting at 9 a.m., at both Andrews and Shipman gyms.

The tournament wraps up Monday at Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium with games at 9 a.m., 10 a.m. and the finals at 11 a.m.

tryout information

Students interested in trying out for the Hilo High bowling teams can pick up physical and consent forms from the school’s main office or athletic director’s office.

The forms must be completed prior to the first day of tryouts and turned into the coach.
