Kamehameha’s Kagawa

enters HHSAA Hall

Kamehameha-Hawaii’s Shaun Kagawa has been named one of the 12 members to the Hawaii High School Athletic Association’s 2013 Hall of Honor.

The 12 senior student-athletes were honored Sunday in Honolulu.

Kagawa was a standout in football, basketball and tennis during his four years at the private school in Keaau. He was twice named to the all-state first team in basketball and once in football.

Kagawa will play football at Army next year. He was the only Big Island student athlete named to the 2013 Hall of Honor class.

The other honorees included: Christian Academy’s Raion Black (track and field); Baldwin’s Keelan Ewaliko (football, track and field); Hawaii Baptist’s Michael Fisher (volleyball); Kahuku’s Kawehena Johnson (football, basketball, track and field) and Aofaga Wily (football); Punahou’s Carly Kan (volleyball, track and field) and Isaac Savaiinaea (football, track and field); Iolani’s Alex Masaquel (basketball, softball); Kamehameha-Kapalama’s Dane Pestano (wrestling, judo) and Bree Rapoza (wrestling, judo); and Seabury Hall’s Renny Richmond (swimming).

Hawaii Football Club clinics

The Hawaii Football Club will host a free clinic featuring Kaiser High coach Rich Miano and his staff, and trainer Chad Ikei of Ikei Sports Hawaii in Kona and Hilo.

The Kona clinic for the youth group (ages 7-13 years old) will be held from 3-4:30 p.m. Friday, May 31, at the Old Kona Airport Field. The high school group (ages 14-17) clinic will follow and run from 4:30-6:30 p.m.

The Hilo clinic for the youth group will be held from 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 1, at Hilo High’s field. The high school group will follow and run from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

HFC will also host a free clinic featuring former University of Hawaii offensive lineman Brian Derby in Waimea and Hilo.

The Waimea clinic will be held June 10-11. The Hilo clinic will be held June 12-13 at Hilo High. Youth group times are from 9-10:30 a.m. The high school group times are from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

In July, HFC will host a free clinic featuring Kahuku High coach Reggie Torres and his staff in Kona and Hilo.

The Kona clinic for youth will be held from 3-4:30 p.m. July 26 at the Old Kona Airport. The high school clinic will follow and run from 4:30-6:30 p.m.

The Hilo clinic for youth will be held from 9-10:30 a.m. July 27 at Waiakea High. The high school group will follow and run from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Hapuna Roughwater Swim set for June 29

The Hapuna Roughwater Swim, the second leg of Bike Works Beach & Sports’ triple crown of swimming, will take place at 8 a.m. June 29 at Hapuna Beach State Park.

Register early at academyswimhawaii.org to guarantee a race T-shirt. Registration forms are also available at Bike Works.

Race organizers need volunteers for water patrol.
