Local publinx deadline

The deadline for the USGA Amateur Public Links Championship local qualifier is 11 a.m.on Wednesday. All entries must be electronically entered through the USGA’s website at www.usga.org/champs/apply.

Eligibility information can be found at that website. The 36-hole sectional qualifying round is scheduled for Saturday, June 8 at the Hilo Municipal Golf Course. The national championship will be held on July 15-20 at the Laurel Hill Golf Club in Lorton, Virginia.

The USGA has planned to retire this championship after the 2014 event. The local committee is hoping for a large number of applicants since the qualifying spots will be determined by an allotment system. Hopefully the local section may be awarded additional spots in order for local amateurs to experience playing in a major amateur championship and more importantly a chance for a Masters invitation.

For more information, call USGA committeeman Lance Taketa at 987-2971.
