Kona Hospital Foundation will host guest speaker Thaddeus Pham, adult viral hepatitis prevention coordinator with the state Department of Health, as he discusses the basics of viral hepatitis from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Community Meeting Hale, Building G, at the West Hawaii Civic Center.
Kona Hospital Foundation will host guest speaker Thaddeus Pham, adult viral hepatitis prevention coordinator with the state Department of Health, as he discusses the basics of viral hepatitis from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Community Meeting Hale, Building G, at the West Hawaii Civic Center.
Pham is also co-director of Hep-Free Hawaii. May is Hepatitis Awareness Month, and he offers the following statistics:
l Hawaii has the highest rate of liver cancer in the U.S. The leading causes of liver cancer are hepatitis B and C;
l Hep B affects one out of 10 Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, and
l Baby boomers (born 1945-1965) are at increased risk of Hepatitis C, and are encouraged to be tested.
Pham will discus the basics of viral hepatitis, including prevention diagnosis and treatment. Admission is free.
