The BYU-Hawaii men’s tennis team beat the University of Hawaii at Hilo 7-2 on Thursday in Laie, Oahu, while the Lady Vulcans lost a pair of matches to the Seasiders.

Tom Greer-Smith had a hand in both victories for the UHH men, beating Zevhan Zakharov in straight sets at No. 1 singles and teaming with Kainoa Rosa at No. 1 doubles.

In No. 2 doubles, Morrisa Kahakui and Rachel Sugiyama delivered the UHH’s women’s only victory.

Coaches seminar

is on tap April 2

The Department of Parks and Recreation will hold a Positive Coaching Alliance Workshop on April 2 in Kailua-Kona.

Registration will be from 5:30-6 p.m. with the workshop running from 6-8 p.m. at a fee of $5.

Baseball alumni

league is forming

The Big Island Baseball Alumni League for ages 18 and over will run from August to September. It is for old-timers or recent graduates itching to shake off the rust and play ball.

Senior golf event

set for May 10

The Big Island Senior Golf Tournament will be held May 10 at Waikoloa Beach Resort’s Kings’ Course.

Open to Big Island residents 55 and older, the fee is $90 and slots are available to the first 140 entrants.

Entry forms for the Department of Parks and Recreation event will be available March 4 at Hilo Kamana Senior Center, Keaau Community Center, the West Hawaii special programs office, and by appointment at the Na‘alehu and Waimea offices.

The deadline to apply is April 25, and forms and payment will only be accepted at East and West Hawaii elderly recreation offices.
