A hit-and-run driver killed a 71-year-old Kealakekua man Thursday on Hawaii Belt Road (Highway 11) at Hokukano Road in Kealakekua.

A hit-and-run driver killed a 71-year-old Kealakekua man Thursday on Hawaii Belt Road (Highway 11) at Hokukano Road in Kealakekua.

Traffic investigators have identified the pedestrian who died as Francisco Asuncion of Kealakekua.

Police are looking for a dark colored Nissan sedan, which should have damages to the front bumper, hood, and possibly the windshield, in connection with the death. The specific model of the vehicle, and whether it’s a two-door or four-door, are unknown, police said.

Traffic Enforcement Unit officers have initiated cases involving potential charges of negligent homicide and accident involving death or serious bodily injury.
