Corsairs looking

for another victory

The Corsairs ride a little momentum into their contest today with the Pirates, fresh off their first AJA Memorial Baseball League victory of the season.

Kendrick Gouveia scampered home on a wild pitch to score the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth inning last Sunday as the Corsairs beat the Keaukaha Warriors 5-4 at Wong Stadium.

Trevor Shimokusu followed with a single to center to cap a three-run rally for the Corsairs (1-6). Shimokusu, Michael Sayoboc and Aaron Nishiura finished 2 or 4.

Kaili Tanaka (1-1) picked up the win in relief, yielding a run and five hits with two strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings. Robbie Merguro allowed a run but nailed down the save.

Shannon Camero was 4 for 5 with an RBI single for the Warriors (5-2), and Blaine Medeiros scored three runs. Kele Coloma (0-1) was the losing pitcher out of the bullpen, allowing four hits, four runs —two earned — with two walks and two strikeouts.

The Pirates and Corsairs play at 10 a.m. today at Wong.

NFL safety Silva

to hold speed clinic

Buffalo Bills safety Mana Silva will hold a free speed and agility clinic that is geared for all sports from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Feb. 23 at Panaewa Park.

At 10 a.m., Ke Kahua Hale Alapa will be hold an NCAA workshop for parents, and there will also be football skills training from 12:30-1:30 p.m.

Registration begins at 9 a.m., and atheletes are asked to bring a water bottle and dress appropriately.

Waiakea Nakoa

football sign-ups

The Waiakea Nakoa football team will hold registration for ages 5-16 starting Monday and running through March 1.

Sign-ups on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays will be held from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at Shipman Park.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, registration will be held at Kurtistown Park from 3:30-5:30 p.m.
