Work resumes Monday on Kilauea Avenue

Road resurfacing work on Kīlauea Avenue will continue Monday, according to the county Department of Public Works.

Additional work will consist of reconstruction, resurfacing and striping on Kīlauea Avenue from the Puna side of the Pauahi Street intersection to Aupuni Street.

Traffic patterns and on-street parking will be affected by the roadwork. Special Duty Police Officers will be on site to direct motorists.

Only one lane will be available for travel beginning Tuesday, only during construction hours and weather permitting. The construction work schedule is Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. If work occurs over the weekend, the contractor’s schedule is 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The County anticipates completion of the Kīlauea Avenue project from Alenaio Bridge to Aupuni Street prior to the start of the the Merrie Monarch Festival in late March.

The $2.1 million capital improvement project for Kīlauea Avenue from Alenaio Bridge to Pauahi Street came in under budget at $1.5 million, making it possible to extend the work to Aupuni Street, according to DPW.
