Kindergarten and first-grade students at Hawaii Preparatory Academy will present Jerry Estes’ and Greg Holder’s “Colors: We’re Better Together” at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 8.
The musical performance, which is being presented as part of the school’s Grandparents Day, will be held at Gates Performing Arts Center at the school’s Upper Campus. The performance is free and open to the public.
“Colors” uses the universal appeal of the crayon box as a basis for teaching some valuable lessons about human relationships. The kindergarten and first grade students play life-sized crayons exploring the difficulties that arise when they must work together to complete the day’s task of coloring another page in the coloring book. Although the tone of the show is a lighthearted one, both performers and audience learn about such issues as prejudice, expressing one’s feelings, cooperation, and taking a positive approach. This is the final of a series of musical productions by HPA’s Lower School students.
