Kenan Gaspar scored 15 points and Brandon Awa added 12 as Konawaena’s boys basketball team remained unbeaten in Big Island Interscholastic Federation play with a 54-50 win over Hawaii Prep on Thursday night in Waimea.

The Division I Wildcats (8-0) led 39-30 after three quarters before the D-II Ka Makani (5-3) mounted a late charge and pulled within a point with less than a minute remaining.

Jovan Crnic led HPA with 20 points and Kama DeSilva added 11.

“Brandon Awa had a nice floor game,” HPA co-head coach Fred Wawmer said of the Wildcats’ talented point guard.

Hilo 73, St. Joseph 21: At Hilo Civic, Jacob Genegabus scored 12 points to lead the D-I Vikings (8-2).

Ben Uhlmann led the D-II Cardinals (0-9) with 10 points.

• Kamehameha-Hawaii 67, Pahoa 54: Senior guard Shaun Kagawa scored 25 points, and the host Warriors overcame Nick Fisher’s 31-point performance to move into a second-place tie with Waiakea in the BIIF East Hawaii Division I standings.

Ilikai Calip added 16 points, and La’a Manliguis chipped in 12 for Kamehameha (7-3).

The Division II Daggers dropped to 5-5.

• Keauu 47, Ka’u 38: Davin Alviento led all scorers with 17 points, and teammate Nick Pagtama added 11 points as the D-I Cougars improved to 6-4.

D-II Ka’u dropped to 2-7 despite 10 points by Gregory Javar. In the JV game, Kirk Imai tallied 11 points to lead Keaau to a 39-36 victory. Shayden Carriba-Agustin scored ll points for the Trojans.
