Hawaiian Community Assets is calling out to young filmmakers from across the state who are interested in exploring the Hawaiian culture while also learning more about financial literacy to create a short video expressing these themes.

Throughout the next couple of months, HCA is conducting a competition inviting youth ages 13-18 to submit short, 3- to 5-minute videos pertaining to either housing issues in their community, the link between Native Hawaiian culture and financial concepts, or financial literacy lessons taught in the Hawaiian language.

“Through this competition HCA seeks to encourage tomorrow’s filmmakers to explore their Hawaiian culture while also learning financial concepts,” HCA’s Americorp VISTA rep., Erin Cavanagh, explained. “Money and saving is important throughout life. People should learn it at a young age, so what better way to teach it than through the creativity of making a short film?”

HCA has announced that the deadline for submissions is April 26, In addition, HCA has explained that the top three winners will receive an award and prize.

All entries can be mailed to 260 Kamehameha Ave. No. k207, Hilo, HI 96720 by this date. Any questions can be submitted to KuIKaMana@gmail.com.
