HPA plans tours for prospective students
Hawaii Preparatory Academy is offering campus tours for prospective K-12 and post-graduate students on Monday, Jan. 21.
Registration for the Village Campus tour for students entering grades K-8 will begin at 8:45 a.m. at the Lynn Taylor Library. Registration for the Upper Campus tour for students entering grades 9-12 and post-graduate will begin at 10 a.m. at Castle Lecture Hall.

Career day scheduled at St. Joseph school
St. Joseph Junior and Senior High School will offer career sessions from 8:15-10:30 a.m. on Feb. 27.

Reda on Dean’s List at Savannah college
Audrey Reda of Keaau was named to the dean’s list at the Savannah College of Art and Design for the fall quarter. Full-time undergraduate students who earn a grade point average of 3.5 or above for the quarter receive recognition on the scholars’ list.
Bautista graduates with B.S. in computers
Blaine K. Bautista of Hilo was among more than 700 students who received associate, baccalaureate, or master’s degrees at Hawaii Pacific University’s 79th commencement ceremony Dec. 18 at the Neal Blaisdell Center.
Bautista received a bachelor of science in business administration in computer information systems.
Apply now for Jack Miyashiro Scholarship
The Jack and Otome Miyashiro Scholarship of $2,000 is available to a public high school graduate planning to attend a two- or four-year post-high school institution as an incoming freshman in the fall. This scholarship is sponsored by the family of Otome and the late Jack Miyashiro and administered by Hui Okinawa.
Mr. and Mrs. Miyashiro were long-time members of Hui Okinawa and successful business people in Hilo. They founded Jack’s Tours.
The applicant must be a graduate of an accredited State of Hawaii Department of Education high school.
The applicant or his/her parent or legal guardian must be a current resident of the County of Hawaii. Application forms are available through the counselor’s offices at public high schools. Forms are also available from Nancy Nakaishi (961-4677, Alben Namihira (961-3443) or Margaret Torigoe (895-0994). Call one of the three if more information is needed. Deadline for application is March 31.
Hui Okinawa offers its annual scholarships
Hui Okinawa is offering two $1,000 scholarships to students who plan to continue their post-high school education in the fall. One scholarship is for a high school graduate who plans to attend a two- or four-year educational institution for the first time in 2013. The second scholarship is for a college student continuing his education or a university graduate enrolling in graduate school in 2013.
Applicants must be a graduate of an accredited high school or GED program in the State of Hawaii. Applicants or their parents/legal guardians must be a current resident of the County of Hawaii. The applicant must have an awareness and appreciation of the Okinawan culture.
Application forms for the scholarships are available at the counselor’s offices of public, private and chartered high schools, adult community schools and the University of Hawaii financial aid offices at Hawaii Community College, UHH and West Hawaii Community College.
