The bye comes at a perfect time as the Warriors (0-3, 1-5 Mountain West) nurse a four-game losing streak. After Hawaii’s 35-23 loss to New Mexico on Saturday, coach Norm Chow listed a variety of areas that need fixing. “We need to tackle better. We need to cut off the inside zone game. We need to catch more balls. We need to quit throwing the balls to the other guys. Run better routes. Pass protect better … we need to get technically better,” the first-year coach said.
Colorado State (0-3, 1-6), the Warriors’ next opponent, is in a similar predicament, having lost six in a row since a season-opening win against Colorado. The Rams also have a bye this week before hosting Hawaii at 1 p.m. HST Oct. 27 in a battle to get out of the conference cellar.

Today’s match with the Aggies marks the first meeting between the teams. On Saturday, the Tigers and ‘Bows will renew a rivalry, meeting for the 62nd time. Though UH holds a 36-25 edge, Pacific has beaten the Warriors more than any other foe besides UCLA. …
Emily Hartong, the conference leader with 4.33 kills per set, has reached double figures in kills in 16 of 17 matches this season and has led Hawaii in that statistic 13 times. Teammates Jade Vorster (.331) and Kalei Adolpho (.328) rank Nos. 1 and No. 2 in the Big West in kill percentage. Along with setter Mita Uiato and suspended outside hitter Jane Croson, those five are a big reason why Hawaii leads the league in hitting percentage (.262), assists per set (12.83) and kills per set (14.05). …
Croson, who has missed the past three matches after coach Dave Shoji cited her for breaking team rules, is not expected back tonight. In her place, freshman Tai Manu-Olevau enjoyed a breakout performance with 11 kills Oct. 12 in a four-set victory against against Cal Northridge…
Hawaii is well on its way to leading the nation in attendance for the 19th straight year, and the race isn’t close. An average of 6,793 fans have attended 12 matches at Stan Sheriff Center. Nebraska (2,373) is second. …
Cal Davis and Pacific are both among a seven-team logjam in the middle of the conference. Cal Davis’s Victoria Lee is third in the league with a .327 hitting percentage and first in blocks. Pacific is second behind UH with a .229 attack rate, but it’s first in only allowing opponents to hit .144.

UH sits in eight place, nine points behind Long Beach State and Cal State Fullerton, who are tied for third. …
The ‘Bows have lost three straight and seven of eight, though most of their problems have been on the road, where they’ve lost 19 of 21. Hawaii has lost just once in its past 13 home matches, but that defeat came Oct. 6 against Cal Fullerston in double overtime.
