Hilo powerlifter Keith Daniels, 45, won the masters division Saturday at the Mr. Olympia Benchpress and Deadlift Invitational in Las Vegas.
In lifting 540 pounds on the bench press, Daniels (198) also claimed his seventh record.
Basketball officials meeting Saturday
Basketball officials interested in participating in the Big Island Interscholastic Federation season are required to attend a rules clinic on Saturday at the University of Hawaii at Hilo.
The clinic starts at 8:30 a.m., in the Athletic Complex Building 320C, Room 118 to discuss Hawaii Island Sports Officials Association’s requirements and basketball rules. The officiating clinic will be held in the UHH gym.

Waiakea High hiring water polo coach
Waiakea High School is accepting applications for a water polo coach.
Applications can be picked up at the school office from 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday and are due by Oct. 15.

Pahoa T-ball/coach-pitch meeting
The Department of Parks and Recreation will conduct a T-ball and coach-pitch informational meeting at the Pahoa Neighborhood facility at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
T-ball is for players 5-6 and coach-pitch is for keiki 7-8 (ages determined as of May 1, 2013).

Hawaii Island Golf Association event
Hawaii Island Golf Association will hold a six-person team tournament Oct. 28 at Hilo Municipal Golf Course.
All players must be HIGA members and have their handicap index posted no later than Monday. The first 24 teams entered by the Oct. 23 deadline will be eligible to play in the tournament.
The entry fee is $120 per team, and cost covers a bento lunch at Muni and part of cash prizes for winning teams and individuals. Green fees and golf cart charges are not included in the entry fee.

Waiakea High golf fundraiser Nov. 3
The Friends of Waiakea Golf Tournament will be held Nov. 3 at Hilo Municipal Golf Course.
The event is two-person scramble with a 7 a.m. shotgun start and costs $200 per team (college and junior golfers are $80). Money raised will go to the Warriors’ boys and girls golf teams.
Entry fee includes cart, green fees, bento lunch, two mulligans and two greenies.
Entry forms are available at Hilo Muni and the deadline to drop them off is Nov. 1 — or until the field is full.

Kukio Blue Water Swim is Saturday
The 9th annual Kukio Blue Water Swim will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday
The 1.2-mile swim at Uluweuweu Bay benefits Hui Laulima O Kekaha Kai, a group established to protect the resources at Kekaha Kai state Park in North Kona, according to a release.
The race is limited to the first 300 participants, and the $50 entry fee ($20 for participants 18 and under) is due by Thursday at www.kukio.net. Checks can be made payable to Hui Laulima O Kekaha Kai. The fee includes race shirt, swim cap and brunch. Race-day registration is $60.
Gates open at 6 a.m. with check-in starting at 6:30 a.m. Swimmers can use fins and snorkel, but they will not be considered for awards.
