Marley Strand-Nicolaisen smacked 15 kills Tuesday night as Ka’u swept Waiakea to open the Big Island Interscholastic Federation girls volleyball season.

Kaila Olson added eight kills in the Trojans’ 25-23, 25-12, 25-15 victory in Pahala.

In junior varsity, the Warriors won 21-12, 21-16.

Defending Division I champion Kamehameha got itself off to a perfect start, shutting out Keaau in the opening set en route to 25-0, 25-5, 25-10 win at Koaia Gym.

The Warriors swept the Cougars 21-10, 21-9 in JV.

In the other opening-night match, St. Joseph beat visiting Pahoa in four sets, 25-15, 18-25, 26-24, 25-16
