vie for Kipimana Cup

W.H. Shipman, Ltd. in Keaau will sponsor Saturday’s Big Island Interscholastic Federation preseason football game between Keaau and Kamehameha in the second annual Kipimana Cup.

The JV game starts at 1 p.m., with the varsity game to follow at Kamehameha. W.H. Shipman will award $500 to the booster club of each school.

Skeet range open

twice in September

The Country Department of Parks and Recreation announced that the Hilo Trap and Skeet Range will be open on Sept. 1 and Sept. 15 from 12:30-4:30 p.m.

Great Waikoloa

Canoe Race Saturday

The Waikoloa Canoe Club will be holding its Great Waikoloa Canoe Race on Saturday at Anaehoomalu Bay. Racing starts at 8 a.m. and will last until noon. Approximately 80 teams will be competing from the islands and all over the world.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Hawaii Island chapter of the American Cancer Society to fund patient services. In 2011, the club presented the American Cancer Society with a check for $1,500.

capture HI-PAL titles

High school teams Country Girls and Kountry Boys won titles during a Hawaii Police Department’s Hawaii Isle Police Activities League “Click It or Ticket” 3-on-3 basketball tournament Monday at Papa‘aloa Gym.

Members of Country Girls are Ashlynn Santos, Reisha Hoopii-Haslam, Emi-Rose Agquinaldo and Mandie Quevedo. Members of Kountry Boys are Kelson Araw, Jessie Araw and Jordan Salboro.

The next HI-PAL tournament is Friday through Sunday in Honokaa, followed by another Sept. 8 at Naalehu gymnasium.

Paradise Roller Girls

skate-a-thon Sept. 9

The Paradise Roller Girls are holding a skate-a-thon from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 9 at Wainaku Community Gym.

The team will raise money through flat pledges or by pledge-per-lap — how many skaters can do in three hours.

Money raised will help the team travel to the Sept. 29-30 Oahu Battle of the Islands roller derby tournament.
