Christian Lee appointed to U.S. Coast Guard Academy

Christian Lee of Waimea has been recognized for superior academic achievement and leadership potential at Marion Military Institute and has been appointed to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy as a member of the class of 2016.

Lee received his appointment on May 7 at the end of his term at the Marion Service Academy Preparation Program.

The USCG Academy in New London, Conn., is an accredited college educating future Coast Guard officers and is the smallest of our nation’s five military service academies.

“The Corps of Cadets at USCGA represents the nation’s best and brightest students, ready to serve and lead their country. Admission to the Coast Guard Academy is highly competitive, with the most qualified applicants selected regardless of where they reside across the nation,” said an official spokesman.

In return for a commitment of military service five years beyond graduation, cadets receive a full tuition scholarship and monthly stipend. They complete college debt-free with a guaranteed position of leadership as a commissioned officer in the Coast Guard. All cadets graduate with a bachelor of science degree.

Lee is the son of Russell Lee and Corinne Kosaki of Honolulu. His grandparents are Maurice and Hope Lee and Peter and Daisy Chun, all of Honolulu.
