Defending champion Hilo Blue will battle Kamehameha-Kapalama at noon today in the Larry Manliguis Alumni Basketball Tournament title game.

The three-day alumni tournament wraps up today with four games at Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.

At 9 a.m. Pahoa Black plays Hilo Gold, followed at 10 a.m. by Waiakea White vs. Waiakea Blue in the third-place game; at 11 a.m. by Pahoa White vs. Hilo Gold in the consolation final; and Hilo Blue vs. Kamehameha-Kapalama in the overal championship game.

In Sunday’s semifinals, Hilo Blue topped Waiakea Blue and Kamehameha-Kapalama downed Waiakea White to reach the finals.

The annual tournament helps raise money for the Larry Manliguis College Scholarship, which is given to Hilo High School graduates looking to continue their education in college. This year, two $300 scholarships will be awarded, according to Bruce Ferreira, who along with current Hilo High boys varsity coach Jason Mandaquit, oversee the program.

The late Larry Manliguis coached the Vikings more than two decades, leading the school to two state titles — in 1991 and 2000.

Last year, Hilo Blue defeated Iolani in the title game at Hilo Civic. Iolani did not play in this weekend’s event.
