John Joseph Edmunds Jr., 92, of Waikoloa and Towaco, N.J., died Dec. 21 at the Jerry and Dolores Turco Medical Rehab Center in Lincoln Park, N.J. Born in Mars Hill, Maine, he was a World War II Navy veteran and professional engineer. A celebration of his life will be held in Towaco in the spring. Survived by daughter, Dee Edmunds of Waikoloa; son-in-law, Jonathan Himalaya of Hilo; son, John Edmunds III of Towaco, N.J.; daughter-in-law, Ana Maria Edmunds of Bloomingdale, N.J.; daughter, Karla (Eugene) Christensen of Jordan, Mont.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Rickey “R.B.” Lee Bailey Sr., 60, of Captain Cook died Dec. 1 at the Kona Community Hospital. Born in Salinas, Calif., he was a former kitchen manager for Huggo’s Restaurant. Friends may call 7-10 a.m. Jan. 14 at Pukaana Congregational Church in Kealia; service at 10 a.m. Casual attire. Survived by his companion, Selma Galdden of Captain Cook; son, Rickey Bailey Jr. of Honolulu; father, Donald (Patty) Bailey of California; brothers, Curtis (Lori) Darr and Michael (Debbie) Darr, both of California; sisters, Kim (Chris) Carnel of California and Tammy (Jeff) Gladden of Ocean View; hanai sons, Kaina Gladden of Kona Palisades and Kekai (Jamie) Gladden of Ocean View; one grandson; five hanai grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Violet Anna Mahi Brooks, 86, of Waipahu died Dec. 24 at Ka Panawal Ola Nursing Home in Kapolei. Born in Papaaloa, she worked as a hotel pantry chef. Services to be held at 11 a.m. on Feb. 11 at Ke Ola Mau Loa Church, 65-1108 Mamalahoa Highway, Waimea. Survived by daughters, Nani Bezemer of Honolulu, Mary Ann Payton of Waipahu, Leimomi Stender-Jenkins of Waipahu, June Hickman of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Jerice Brooks of Honolulu; 17 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
