The Alzheimer’s Association will be presenting lectures and screening a film from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Jan. 21 at Tutu’s House in Waimea.
The first topic will be “What Is Dementia,” a workshop led by Hilo program coordinator Chris Ridley, who will review dementia, the symptoms, warning signs, misconceptions and potential treatments. The 9 a.m. presentation includes short videos of people with the disease, family members of people with dementia and various professionals.
At 11 a.m., Ridley will show the movie “Memories of Tomorrow.” The 2007 film stars Ken Watanabe, who delivers an outstanding performance about a man’s experience during the early onset of Alzheimer’s disease. A discussion will follow the film.
A workshop at 1 p.m. is titled “Communication and Behaviors in Dementia.”
The lectures are free but seating is limited. Participants can bring a lunch to enjoy during the movie. Tutu’s House, a nonprofit community gathering place, is located at 64-1032 Mamalahoa Highway, No. 305.
