The Hawaii County Public Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources Preservation Commission (PONC) is accepting nominations from the public through Jan. 31 for lands to be considered for preservation.

Properties may qualify for preservation because they offer opportunities for cultural significance, education, natural resources, outdoor recreation and/or public access to beaches or mountains.

Nominations can include beaches, coastal areas, forests or places of natural beauty, in addition to the protection of natural resources such as watersheds for general benefits to the public.

The 2026 Suggestion Forms must be received by 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, by email or mail.

Any forms received late will not be reviewed. Forms received will not be returned.

To obtain the “2026 Suggestion Form” to nominate properties, please visit https://tinyurl.com/34fm4x3b and click on the “Suggestion Form and Information” folder or contact the Property Management Division at PONC@hawaiicounty.gov.

Properties are nominated each year by the public and reviewed and ranked by the commission and recommended by the mayor.

Land purchases require a willing seller and authorization by the County Council.
