Harold “Hal” Baas, 81, of Waikoloa died Sept. 28 in Los Angeles. Born in Glendale, Calif., he loved traveling, biking, hiking, paddling, swimming, running and was an avid bridge player. Born in Romania, he was an architect and survivor of a tumultuous time in Romania’s history whose passions included beekeeping, hydroponic farming, stamp collecting, photography, metal detecting and shortwave radio. Diana J. Pugh Wright, 81, of Waimanalo, Oahu, and Hilo, died Sept. 23 at Life Care Center of Hilo. She was a trainer for Sea Life Park who loved her horses and dogs and enjoyed marathon running, biking, hiking and other outdoor activities.
