Waiakea grad joins Mets staff

Waiakea High School graduate and former All-BIIF infiedler Kai Correa has a new position after spending the last two seasons as the major league field coordinator and director of defense, strategy and baserunning for the Cleveland Guardians.

Correa joins the New York Mets staff as the bench coach, where he is expected to assume the position immediately.

Correa played collegiately at the University of Puget Sound — beginning his coaching career with the Loggers not long afterward. He additionally served as the San Francisco Giants’ bench coach from 2020-23, where he made history at the conclusion of the 2023 season by serving as the interim manager for the final three games of the regular season after Gabe Kapler was fired. He officially became the first Hawaiian-born manager in MLB history.

Isabella Freeman named conference defender of week
